Applied Statistics Unit

The Applied Statistics Unit (ASU) at the Indian Statistical Institute, Chennai Centre, is actively engaged in teaching and research in core areas of statistics. Faculty members are committed to providing rigorous training that blends theoretical depth with applied relevance. Research activities at ASU Chennai focus on regression analysis, mathematical statistics, reliability, and survival analysis, with notable contributions in non-parametric inference, censored data models, and inequality measures.

Dr. Sudheesh Kumar Kattumannil is an Associate Professor in the Statistical Science Unit at ISI Chennai, with a strong record of teaching, research, and recognition. His research spans mathematical statistics, reliability theory, and survival analysis, including work on nonparametric methods, empirical likelihood, censored data, and inequality measures. He has been honoured with awards such as the Dr. C. R. Rao Gold Medal in Statistics (2021) from the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics, and the Jan Tinbergen Award for Young Statisticians, International Statistical Association, Netherlands. His scholarly contributions and pedagogy make him a key force in advancing statistical science and mentoring future researchers.
